Greetings All,
I retired May 1, 2015 after working with Michigan AFSCME Council 25 as a Staff Rep. Worked for the Sanders campaigns 2016 & 19 in Iowa, Michigan & Indiana. Helped form a DSA chapter in Southwest Michigan 2017 and became it's lead organizer for M4A efforts. On July 21, 2020 we were able to sucessfully ecourage the Kalamazoo County Commission to pass a proclamation of support for M4A Act 2019. We will soon approach the Kalamazoo City Commission to do same. In 2017 I was trained and became a workshop facilitator called; "Reversing Runaway Inequality". The cirriculum is taken from the book written by Labor Institute Executive Director, Les Leopld, titled
"Runaway Inequality An Activist's Guide To Economic Justice". The workshop was created through a collabaration between the Labor Institute and the Communication Workers of America. The content of the workshop provides an undersatnding of the social, political and economic context in which our organizing efforts takes place.
My hope, for this conference, is that we do not get bogged down or have the discussion, solely, centered around the electorial asperations of the Democratic Party without an equal imphasis on building a grassroots social movement taking independent, militant actions to accomplish our goals, vis, unions, voting rights, womens movement, immigration reform etc.
I'm excited about attending this conference, meeting as many of you as possible and building our future collaborations!
In Solidarity, Bill Farmer
